Michelle Dao is a counselor-in-training in the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Northwestern University, a CACREP-accredited graduate program. She is currently training to become a licensed professional counselor in Texas under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, Dr. Marianne Berry, PhD.

As a future counselor, Michelle is passionate about being a part of her clients’ journeys to self-discovery, change, growth, and empowerment, as much as they will be a part of hers. She is interested in pediatric and perinatal mental health, with a focus on early intervention, prevention, wellness, and holistic, client-centered care. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, culturally sensitive, and culturally responsive. Drawing from a psychodynamic perspective, she believes that exploring early life experiences, while fostering a supportive and empathetic therapeutic environment, can help cultivate a strong sense of self, foster the development of positive coping skills, strengthen resilience, and promote long-term well-being and growth across the lifespan. Life presents unique challenges for everyone, and seeking support is a courageous step toward growth.

Counselors can provide support and collaboratively work with clients to navigate life’s challenges, address mental health concerns, and discover ways to make meaningful, positive changes to live more authentic, fulfilling lives.
